Hector Ruiz, PhD, Founder and Chairman

Hector RuizDr. Hector de Jesus Ruiz is a founder of Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc and serves as the company’s Chairman. A luminary in the field of technology for nearly three decades, he is an accomplished engineer, corporate strategist and chief executive.

Dr. Ruiz’s professional career began at Texas Instruments in the company’s research laboratories and manufacturing operations. He then spent two decades at Motorola, rising from running a microchip manufacturing facility in Scotland, to overseeing the firm’s worldwide semiconductor operations, to leading semiconductor research and development, and finally serving as President of the company’s Semiconductor Products Sector.

In 2000, Dr. Ruiz joined AMD as President and Chief Operating Officer, and in April 2002 he was named Chief Executive Officer. At AMD, Dr. Ruiz set the strategic direction of the company, helping guide its growth from a small, broad supplier of components to an innovative technology solutions leader in the processor space.

In 2006, he announced plans to build and operate the world’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility in upstate New York, and in 2009, he led an industry transformation by spinning out AMD’s manufacturing assets to form GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the first truly global leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing company. During his tenure at AMD, Dr. Ruiz received numerous accolades, including: the Semico Bellwether Award (2009); Executive of the Year – 2005 (EE Times); CEO of the Year – 2005 (Electronic Business); and Top 25 Business Leader – 2006 (FORTUNE Magazine), among others.

Dr. Ruiz currently serves on UT’s College of Engineering Foundation Advisory Council. In 2006, he was selected as a Distinguished Engineering Graduate of UT-Austin, and in 2012, he was selected for the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Texas Exes’ highest honor. Dr. Ruiz currently serves as a Trustee Emeriti of Rice University and is on the Board of Trustees of the RAND Corporation and the Board of Directors of Breakthrough Austin. He is also a Board Advisor to EDCO Ventures, a community development corporation, and is a General Partner in Innovación Investments, a new community development venture capital fund.

Dr. Ruiz attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1968 and 1970 respectively. He completed his doctoral degree at Rice University in 1973.

Dr. Bertrand Cambou, Director

Bertrand CambouDr. Cambou is a Director at Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc and has over 29 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.

Dr. Cambou spent 15 years at Motorola Semiconductor, where he held several senior level positions, including Senior Vice President and General Manager- Networking and Computing Systems Group (NCSG) and CTO of the Semiconductor Product Group.

Following Motorola, Dr. Cambou was COO of Gemplus, a provider of smartcards and related technologies, and which was acquired by Axalto in 2006, and is now known as Gemalto. Dr. Cambou then served as the President and CEO of Spansion. More recently he was the President of Silicon Storage Technology Inc. (SST), which was acquired by Microchip. He then served as the Executive Chairman of Crocus Technology, a leading developer of magnetically enhanced semiconductor technology, also known as MRAM.

Dr. Cambou has a doctorate in Physics and electrical engineering from Paris XI University, an engineering degree from Supélec in Paris, France and a masters in Physics from Toulouse University.

Bharath Rangarajan, PhD, Co-Founder and Director

Bharath RangarajanDr. Bharath Rangarajan is co-founder of Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc and served as the founding President and CEO. Considered one of the leading strategists in the technology sector, Dr. Rangarajan brings a proven track record of creating value through growth and innovation, along with diverse expertise spanning technology, manufacturing, marketing, strategy and business development.

Previous to founding ANS, Dr. Rangarajan spent more than fifteen years at AMD with his tenure culminating in the role of VP of Corporate Development. While at AMD, he spearheaded large acquisitions and other strategic initiatives that helped establish AMD’s technology and market leadership as a microprocessor solutions provider. His efforts further enabled the creation of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, now a prominent player in the semiconductor manufacturing segment.

Dr. Rangarajan holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi, a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University, and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Anna Maria Nekoranec, Co-Founder and Director

Anna Maria NekoranecMs. Anna Maria Nekoranec is a co-founder and Director at Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc and serves as Head of Finance and Investor Relations of ANSI Capital. She has twenty years of experience investing in and developing leading edge technology companies in the United States and Europe.

Ms. Nekoranec is the founder of LBK Capital LLC, a family office for private investing. Prior to founding LBK Capital, she was a partner and managing director of Investor Growth Capital, a $2 billion private equity and venture capital firm focused on technology and healthcare investments in the U.S. and Europe. She has also been a director of the Safeguard International Fund and a Senior Investment Manager of CMS Companies.

Ms. Nekoranec has been an active board member in over 10 privately held companies. Her representative investments include Bredbandsbolaget (acquired by Telenor), ALD Vacuum Technologies (acquired by Advanced Metallurgical Group) and Scanwafer (acquired by Renewable Energy Corporation). She also currently serves on the Jefferson Scholarship regional selection committee for the University of Virginia and is a board member of Forty Carrots, a non-profit organization focused on parenting. She previously served on the Jefferson Scholarship national selection committee of the University of Virginia and the National Campaign Board. She is the co-author of How to Buy a Business: Entrepreneurship through Acquisition.

Ms. Nekoranec holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Modern Studies from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Edmundo Ruiz,COO

Edmundo RuizMr. Edmundo Ruiz is the Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc. For over 25 years, Mr. Ruiz has developed, managed and optimized high technology Operations and Business Processes in large corporations such as Siemens, Cemex and Avaya as well as in medium size companies such as Tessera, and is an owner of Dokumenta, an information technology enterprise in Germany. Edmundo’s corporate entrepreneurial approach enables him to develop new businesses within well-established organizations.

At Tessera, Mr. Ruiz was member of the Executive Board and Chief Administrative Officer responsible for the corporate functions of Strategy, Human Resources, Information Technologies, Facilities Management and Administrative Support. He supported all corporate goals including setting new operational facilities in China and Taiwan.

While working at Siemens he held positions of increasing responsibility, from Head of Business Development, to founding and managing a new Business Technology Unit in the USA, to Global Chief Information Officer and Head of eBusiness for Siemens Mobile, to finally becoming the Global Head of Information Technology Infrastructure for Siemens worldwide and Regional CIO for Europe, Middle East and Africa. During his time at Siemens, Mr. Ruiz was responsible for the execution of corporate initiatives that saved hundreds of millions of Euros in EBIT.

Before joining Siemens, Mr. Ruiz had a successful career at Cemex, initially joining the company as Head of Operations and Information Technologies in the US later progressing to the executive role responsible for Strategic Planning in Latin America. In this role, he managed the acquisition and strategic direction of Venezolana de Cementos.

While at Avaya, Mr. Ruiz was responsible for International Operations and Information Technologies in Asia, Latin America and Europe and completed the integration of a German acquisition.

Mr. Ruiz holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico and a Masters of Science in Management from the Sloan Fellows Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, Massachusetts.

Melissa Grupen-Shemansky, PhD, SVP Engineering

Melissa Grupen-ShemanskyDr. Melissa Grupen-Shemansky currently serves as Senior Vice President of Engineering for Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc. With over 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, she has a strong background in research and development, manufacturing, business development, and technology strategy.

Dr. Grupen-Shemansky began her career at Motorola in semiconductor research and development. Over the course of 10 years, she held various management positions in silicon and gallium arsenide device fabrication, packaging, interconnect and system integration. Following Motorola, she was the Director of Interconnect Technology and Design Engineering in Lucent, Bell Labs, which later spun as Agere Systems. Prior to joining ANS, she was Vice President of Packaging and Interconnect Technology at Spansion, the flash memory division of AMD.

While at Bell Labs, Dr. Grupen-Shemansky launched a novel collaborative parallel design flow for silicon device and package/system design that won the attention of top tier customers and later evolved into a co-design methodology enhanced by the computer-aided design community. She has dedicated much of her career to the seamless integration of fab and post-fab semiconductor processes with advanced interconnect solutions that meet the demands of increasingly sophisticated electronic products. In addition, she has received various corporate and educational awards, has seven issued patents, numerous technical publications, and is a contributing author to Failure-Free Integrated Circuit Packages.

Dr. Grupen-Shemansky holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University.
